Animal Monsters

This series was a super fun experiment to get out of my comfort zone with medium and subject. For the month of October, I joined Peachtober, an online art challenge created by furrylittlepeach.

Each day I followed the prompt list and created an animal-monster based on that Prompt. For this image, I used the word Boot and the animal Jerboa to create a little monster struggling to get dressed for the day.

I sketched out ideas for each prompt, then used only neocolor crayons to draw the characters in my sketchbook.

Some days I just drew a simple little monster, but on others, I was more inspired by the prompts and created mini scenes like this one.

each day I scanned in my traditional work and tidied it up in Procreate. This method gives me the most control over an image while keeping a traditional feel.

A monthly art challenge is always a good exercise as it allows me to focus on learning a new subject or experimenting with a new material. Using prompts someone else chose helps to get out of my head and create images I might never have thought up otherwise. Like this buffalo-monster drinking afternoon tea.

Creating monsters all month was so inspiring that I wanted to use the art for something new, learning 3D on my ipad!

I took this rock-monster and created a 3D model in nomad-sculpt and coloured him in Procreate. I would love to make more 3D characters from my monsters in the future.
