BIRBFEST
Birbfest is a monthly art challenge to draw a bird everyday in the month of January, created by birdietam. This year I hosted the challenge on Instagram which was a very fun experience!
I wanted to use a style that wouldn’t require too much clean up digitally, while using mixed-media - because just one media won’t do.
I started each day with a page of sketches. I love using these quick sketches as a warmup, and also to understand the shapes of each bird. I would often use one of these sketches as a base for my final piece -this helped with stylisation.
For the final piece, I used a bas of watercolour and then added detail with coloured pencil and neocolor crayons. I also added stars to each of my birds - I am going through a bit of a star phase right now.
Birbfest was a way to hone my mixed-media style with a manageable piece every day, learn all about my favourite animal -birds! It was also a great way to connect with the artist community online, find new inspirations, and maybe even inspire others.
